Most people don’t realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in Lafayette County, and unfortunately, way too many women of all ages die unnecessarily from a heart attack each year.
Area women can evaluate their risk and learn how to prevent heart disease by attending the upcoming “Heart to Heart” – The Heart Truth - Health Forum for Women.
The event that supports the national campaign to raise awareness about women and heart disease, will be held Thursday, March 18 at the First Baptist Church, 1907 Peach St. in Higginsville.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Marla Tobin, will present the latest research on women and heart disease, and explain how symptoms of an impending heart attack are expressed much differently in women. Dr. Tobin will empower women with ways to communicate more effectively with their physician and how to “take charge” of their health.
From 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., participants may sign up for door prizes, view exhibits and participate in a number of free health screenings, including glaucoma; hearing; bone density; blood pressure; blood sugar; body fat/BMI; and total cholesterol. In addition, area nurse practitioners will present a panel discussion on women’s health issues. The keynote speaker and fashion show will follow.
