The Lexington boys basketball team stayed close to third-seeded St. Pius X of Kansas City Tuesday night, but could never close the gap. The visiting Warriors ended the Minutemen’s sesaon going away, 61-38 in the opening round of Class 3 District 15 play.
St. Pius put up a bakers dozen of points in the first two quarters, jumping out to a 13-6 lead after a period, then led 26-15 at intermission.
Poor first half shooting was one of the downfalls Tuesday night for LHS, only making four-of-14 shots attempted. The Minutemen stayed in the game at the free throw line, making all seven foul shots in the opening half.
Lexington kept putting the heat on the Warriors, but St. Pius was able to answer when they needed to. The Warriors put the game away in the fourth quarter. A three-pointer from Jacob Hamerle and Robert Retzer putback sealed the win for St. Pius, who put 20 points up in the fourth quarter.
