Finally... a hyped up game for Wellington-Napoleon that panned out. The Tigers got a real test from visiting Braymer Friday night at Wellington during a game that went down to the final minute to decide.
The Tigers capped its first undefeated season in school history with a 66-60 nailbitter over the Bobcats.
“Everytime time we try to pull away they came right back,” said W-N boys basketball head coach Todd Shannon. “We kind of had the receipe for an upset. We had turnovers, didn’t shoot the ball well and weren’t making free throws very well. I thought in the last minute when we needed them, they stepped up and made some free throw and had some good defensive stops.”
Braymer’s pure size in the paint proved to be headaches for Well-Nap all night. Clayton Brown, just a little taller than 6- 6 Ethan Arndt, was a force in the paint all night, with a team-high 22 points.
“They had two big, physical boys,” Shannon said. “We knew we had our hands full. The thing I thought we didn’t do well is we let them get comfortable where they were at and let them get into position. We didn’t move them out of there. They’re two big boys and they definitely gave us troubles.”
