The Lexington boys basketball team gave the MRVC East champion Higginsville Huskers a scare last Thursday night in its regular season finale. The Cardiac Minutemen almost pulled off a huge upset heading to this week’s district tournament, but fell two points short.
The host Huskers held on for a 32-30 win last Thursday night, but just barely.
“It’s by far the best game we’ve played (against Higginsville) since I’ve been here,” said Lexington head coach Philip Courter. “We just got off to such a bad start. We only scored three points in the first quarter and everything we worked on to prepare for tonight’s game, we didn’t do a very good job of in the first quarter. We settled for too many outside shots.
The Minutemen’s 2-3 zone look gave Higginsville a dose of its own medicine. Lexington, normally a man-to-man team on defense, switched and it forced Higginsville to some outside jumpers, most of which did not fall this night.
