Irvin Gene Hawkins, 74, of Lexington, MO passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO.

Irvin Gene Hawkins was born July 29, 1935 in Lexington the son of Inez Hawkins Brooks. He married Mable Taylor on February 3, 1954 in Lexington. He was a 1953 graduate of Douglass High School in Lexington, MO and also received his associates’ degree from Wentworth Military Academy in October of 1976. Irvin was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he received an honorable discharge. After the Army he worked construction until he started working at Lake City Ammunitions Plant. (Olin) While working at Lake City he received his water engineering degree and transferred to the Lake City Water Treatment facility. He retired after over 30 years of service. After retirement from Lake City he continued to use his engineering license by working for the City of Henrietta, the City of Odessa and temporarily for the City of Lexington waste water departments.

Irvin was a member of Zion A.M.E. Church in Lexington. He was a member of Dixon Lodge #11 for over 40 years and received his life membership of the Masons in 2003. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 60. At the time of his death he was acting as Chairman of the Lexington Planning & Zoning Committee.
