Six gold, five silver, two bronze and a fourth place finish helped the Lexington Middle School Science Olympiad team earn its sixth straight state berth.

The team placed third at regional competition in Warrensburg Feb. 27. This is the team’s 11th year competing at Warrensburg under the supervision of Cindy Magnifico, LMS’ sixth and seventh grades science teacher.

Thirteen LMS and two LHS students traveled to UCM for the tournament. These 15 students competed in twenty three events. The students and their coaches have been working since October to prepare for this event. All of their hard work paid off as the students medalled in 13 of the 23 events.

Garnering gold in their events were Brandon Nordsieck and Allison Leuck in Elevated Bridge, Seth Ritter and Jordan Schrunk in Junkyard Challenge, Natalie Oetting and Jordan Schrunk in Science Crime Busters, Seth Ritter and Garret Sanders in Solar System, Brandon Nordsieck and Adam Weyrauch in Trajectory and Terriana Mohler and Sklar Wrisinger in Wright Stuff.
